Purpose & setup

Resolve a shared middle ball with a clear call before either partner swings.

B and C stand on opposite halves just inside the near service line. A feeds from the far baseline. Agree that the player nearest the feed’s landing line calls first; the other gives space.

How to play

  1. A sends a gentle feed between B and C, alternating slightly left and right of centre.
  2. One partner calls “mine” early and volleys towards the far central backcourt T. The other stays clear and covers their half.
  3. End on that volley’s first bounce. If neither calls, or both move into the ball, stop the attempt without a swing.
  4. After six feeds rotate A → B, B → C, C → A. Finish the current feed when time ends.

Scoring or success

One shared point for one clear call followed by one safe in-court volley. A stopped collision-risk attempt earns zero, with no penalty for stopping.

Rotation & roles

Six feeds per feeder; both partners stay involved through calling and cover. Rotate only when the ball is dead.

Make it easier

A announces the intended hitter before feeding.

Add a challenge

A varies the feed between the middle and either outer half while keeping gentle pace.

Mixed levels

Agree a larger responsibility area for the stronger volleyer without removing the other partner’s turns.

Safety & spacing

A never drives at a player. Both partners stop immediately if responsibility is unclear; do not cross rackets or reach across one another.
