Purpose & setup

Start gently, rally crosscourt, and give every player each role.

A and B begin at opposite diagonal service-line corners. C waits safely outside the sideline on A’s end with one ball to feed, then stays clear as observer.

How to play

  1. C gently underarm-feeds one ball to B, then remains safely outside the playing space.
  2. B returns crosscourt to A; A and B keep a cooperative one-bounce crosscourt rally.
  3. A miss, out ball or second bounce ends the rally. C counts successful returns.
  4. After three rallies rotate: C takes A’s place, A takes B’s place, B becomes feeder/observer. Switch diagonal after all three have fed. End the current rally at time.

Scoring or success

Count the longest cooperative rally in each three-rally round, excluding the initial feed.

Rotation & roles

C rests from rallying for just three rallies while feeding and observing. Everyone rotates through all roles; walk around the net on dead balls.

Make it easier

Move closer and use a slower, comfortable ball speed.

Add a challenge

Use a smaller target while keeping the same rotation and scoring.

Mixed levels

Use a larger target for the less experienced player and a smaller one for the stronger player.

Safety & spacing

Keep spare balls and equipment outside playing routes. Call shared balls, leave room for swings and retrieve only after the ball is dead. Use a comfortable pace and stop rather than chasing into another player or court.
