Purpose & setup

Run two independent straight rallies with clear lane ownership and safe shared pauses.

A faces C in the left singles half and B faces D in the right singles half, starting near opposite service lines. Use exactly two balls, one per straight lane. The centre line divides the lanes.

How to play

  1. A and B start gentle drop-feeds in their own lanes once both pairs are ready.
  2. Each pair rallies after one bounce down its straight lane. Never cross into the other lane or play a ball from it.
  3. If either ball leaves its lane, call “stop”; both pairs stop before anyone retrieves. Restart both lanes together.
  4. After five shared starts, switch partners to A–D and B–C with the ball dead. Finish both current rallies at time.

Scoring or success

Each lane counts consecutive returns after its feed. The four-player target is for both lanes to reach six during the same shared start.

Rotation & roles

Feeders alternate within each lane after every shared stop. Change partners every five starts; all four remain active.

Make it easier

Start closer to the service lines and use one controlled return followed by a catch.

Add a challenge

Move both pairs towards the baselines while retaining straight lanes.

Mixed levels

Give the less experienced pair a shorter rally distance; both lanes still obey every shared stop.

Safety & spacing

Two balls are used only in separated straight lanes. Stop both rallies immediately if either ball crosses centre; do not poach or chase across.
